It can be a curious thing, living on the mission field, especially during a pandemic. Wanting to elaborate on such a unique situation I’m in, I asked the question, “What are your questions about life on the mission field / World Race?” on a couple of my social media platforms the other day. So here it is—your world racer Q&A.

Q: “How has it been living with strangers so far?”

A: “I read this question to my teammate Aaron, and I wish you could have seen the offense on his face.  “I wonder what they mean by strangers,” He added sarcastically, haha. I was a little nervous about joining my team at first since I was the last one to meet them on the field. They had already been doing ministry for quite some time when I came along. Despite my fears, they made me feel like I hadn’t missed a single thing. They welcomed me in so well. Here’s a little rundown of each member, explained by which clothing article they each would be, haha.

Lindsey (Team Leader) – The hat. She shades the team in that spiritual covering.

Ari– The spiritual pants FOR SURE!

Alayna (Logistics) – The backpack. She always has our backs and supports us so well.

Aaron (Field Writer) – Fun socks. Outgoing yet warm. Fun yet cozy.

Scottie (Treasurer) – The undergarments. Serves you well but is ok with not getting any credit or being seen.

Me (Field Writer) – The sweater. Came a little later in the year, but still necessary.

Q: “What is your favorite part so far?”

A: “Beauty for Ashes, our women’s ministry, has been one of my favorite things for sure! One of my teammates, Ari, met a sweet woman at the local park. She has been homeless for a bit and is an outcast among the community due to how much she drinks. Ari invited her to our women’s ministry, and it’s been super sweet to see how God is working in her life. Not just because of Beauty for Ashes, but the sweet friendship Ari has built with her by visiting her at the park and eating with her often.”

Q: “What has the Lord done to your heart so far?”

A: “This may sound kind of weird, but I feel like God has been laying things on my heart for the American church. I don’t want to talk too much about this yet because it’s still cooking. I will say, the longer I’m here, the more I’m learning about what it means to be the church. The more I learn these things, the heavier my heart gets for the American church, which I’ve never felt before.”

Q: “Have you been able to get your coffee fix?”

A: “Finally, yes! It took a while for me to find a good coffee place, which is surprising! The thing is that everyone here is obsessed with instant coffee or the franchised coffee stores. My team has heard me rant about the difference between good latte milk and bad latte milk at least a thousand times by this point, haha. I finally found some craft coffee at Fat Cat Coffee House. Look them up. You won’t regret it.

Q: “How is it?!”

A: “A sweet adventure, my friend. Waking up each morning knowing I’ve stepped into God’s promise is a crazy feeling. He has so much for me yet. I’ve barely just dipped my toes into the deep waters of all He plans for this year.”

Thank you for staying curious about what God is doing both in and through me this year, my friends! I can’t to share more stories with you as they come.
