That next day, I set off once again for the park. When I arrived, despite it being the busiest I have ever seen, nobody came up to me trying to sell things. I think they all could see the wild determination in my eyes as I darted around the crowds and beautiful trees to find my friend. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a flicker of brightly dyed red hair blowing in the breeze. I had found her. The joy and adrenaline I had as I fought through the crowd to get to her must have been what the father in the story of the prodigal son felt when he saw his son had returned. I didn’t care what people thought of me. I started yelling, “Mi amiga! Mi amiga!” as loud as I could to get her attention. A huge smile came over her face as she saw who was so excitedly coming towards her. She rolled up to me, hugged me, and we sat and talked.
We passed google translate back and forth for quite some time, not fully understanding what the other was saying, but we had a fun time all the same. Before I left her, we prayed together and exchanged social media to keep up with one another. We hugged, and I walked away with a skip in my step that didn’t quite match my spirit at the moment. I was going to miss her and wished I had more time to be with her. After all, If I wasn’t around to take care of her and make sure she was doing ok, who was going to? With each step, I prayed fervently for J and that she would be taken care of. That’s when an orange butterfly flew across my path and briskly landed on me. If you know me at all, you know that God winks at me through orange butterflies. As my little God wink landed on me, I felt him speak so clear, “I will take care of her.”
Matthew 28:18-19
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,“
How cool is it that we are commanded to go into all the earth to make friends, love people, and show and tell those people about Jesus? I will probably never see J again, but I know I will see my friend one day in Heaven because of the great commission. It’s not just about going into all the earth to heal and perform miracles. It’s also about making loving, Jesus-filled friendships with the people we meet and share him with. We are going to have so many friends in heaven. That is pretty cool.
How are you sharing the gospel, dear reader? Are you making it an agenda or allowing God to move in loving conversations / sweet friendships? How many friends will you get to see in heaven someday? No matter how many times you have or have not shared the gospel, you can do it. It’s what we are put on this earth to do, after all.
