I’ve never seen anything quite like it, the look on someone’s face as they read the bible in their own language for the first time. “This says Messenger from heaven!” our neighbor, Sarah, exclaimed. Tears welled in her eyes as she flipped through the book. It was only a couple of days before she asked us who Jesus was and how Christianity is different from every other religion. What we said that day was probably alright, but our words will fade. The word of God is eternal.

Thirty percent of Armenia’s population is made up of refugees. Upon landing, these refugees see elaborately built churches, paintings picturing a blonde-haired blue-eyed Jesus, and thick printed bibles written in a language they don’t read. They ‘see’ God all around, but never get to read and experience his word. Altar, a local Christian coffee shop, is working to change that.

This coffee shop is like none I’ve ever seen, especially abroad. The front of the store is filled with lively greenery, delicious scents of coffee, and shelves upon shelves of bibles and other Christian literature in languages inclusive to refugees. The back of the coffee shop is a prayer room open to the public all day, every day. This is where we found a bible in our neighbors’ language. It’s because of this little shop that Sarah was impacted in such a big way.

Altar opened in December of 2020, and only four months later, they were given the shocking news that the owner of the space decided to sell the building. Since then, they have been raising money to purchase the building for $100,000 by the end of the year, so they can keep doing the good work God has put on their hearts. God laid it on my team and I’s hearts to partner with this local shop and help fundraise.

Here are a few ways you can help these doors stay open:

1. Donate $25+ and receive a hand-painted postcard here from Armenia. We use coffee from Altar in each painting. We will write a prophetic prayer for you on the back!

2. Donate $100+ and receive a bag of Armenian coffee along with an Altar mug!

3. Make any amount donation to help support

4. Pray for more traction, for people to partner with the shop financially, and that God moves in their finances.

If you would like to donate and be a part of what God is doing here in Armenia, you can Venmo us @altar_coffee All finances will come straight to us and then be given to Altar coffee.

Let’s see God move!
